EFF YEW Squirrels

There is only one way in there now. Early spring, I'll throw some plastic over it and start growing sooner. Btw, all the darker wood, the nails, and hardware I salvaged from an old shed, and a treehouse. It's all treated. I have a good pile of wood for future building projects. The kids will get a fort, and I'll have a shed for all the gas stuff tools.

Father's day weekend

We had lunch at Smoky Mountain Brewery. It's one of the Callhoun's restaurants, where they make their own beer. Great food, best bbq in the world, and awesome steaks. Just ask Grace. Jack is back there practicing his stacking skills.

Luke likes wings, but not as much as he likes ranch dressing.

Just across the street was an Imax. We took the kids to see Toy Story 3. 3d has never looked so good.

We have a squirrel problem. They like to steal our green tomatoes and eat the seeds. They have gotten a dozen or so. We are building a cage for the garden with chicken wire. It will double as a greenhouse when it gets cold again. Jack was very helpful digging the holes for the posts. He also was crawling around in the basement with me for a couple of hours, putting up plastic sheeting to keep out moisture in the main room down there. He worked his butt off, and I couldn't have done it without him.

Suncatchers

The kids did good in their suncatcher class. they picked out the glass, scored it, and did the bending and gluing. The teacher did the solder. The are a fish and mountains. This one is Jack's

Grace's

The garden

Jalapeno and Heirloom tomato. There are 2 jalapeno plants, 2 bell pepper, and an orange bell pepper. The bells are still flowering, but the hot ones are popping out.

Blackberries

Parsley, dill, oregano, basil

Grace holding the dill

Romaine. I didn't know this stuff grew up like this. We just let it go. It gets about 4 feet high, then flowers. The onions and garlic are doing good. We took out the first onion the other day. It was the size of a quarter. Im going to get them all out within a week, and pickle them.

Broccoli pods

Both blueberry bushes are producing. This one has more pinkish berries. The other is darker purple

Our little carrots. We will pick these when they are still young, about 3 inches long

Luke ate the first cucumber yesterday. There are enough small ones to pickle within the next week or so. We like the small crunchy ones. We will put in jalapenos and dill we grew, too.

There are 6 of these roma plants. We will be canning these soon, too.

There are 3 cherry plants, all of them are about 7 ft tall now. They are all leaning all over the place, I need to get something built to support their growth.

There are 2 big boy plants, and an heirloom

We planted the spinach too late or something. Not one sprout

The beans are doing ok. They don't like the hot weather, so we will see how they do. You can see the spinach slits behind them.

Summer vacation has been pretty busy. Grace had a 1 week art class at the downtown museum from 9-12 last week, called sym sym symetry. She has another 1 week class next month, about pinhole photography, and her and Jack are going to a 1 day workshop this week on suncatchers. They started swimming lessons last week, too. Then we have piano on thursdays, and drums on fridays. Football will start for Jack in a couple of weeks. It's a good thing Luke is so easy going. He never complains when we have to go again. Anyway, heres some of Grace's stuff from symetry class.

This is my favorite.

This is Grace's favorite. It has her name in it a few times. See it?

Pinewood derby

The pinewood derby is the last thing the scouts do before summer break. Jack loved making his car. He designed the shape. All I did was cut it out and put on the wheels. He did all the sanding and painting. His car won a race. Nobody will forget his reaction. Lets just say, there is no doubt that he was excited. We didn't catch it on video, though. oh well
